Aruba Natural Pool Tour: which to book, or drive yourself?
The short version: you can drive yourself only if you rented an actual 4×4. A standard rental car voids its own insurance the moment it leaves the paved road, and the track to Conchi is not a road. Park entry is $22 per adult (under-17s free) (acf.aw), so if you have the right vehicle a Natural Pool tour is worth nothing to you. If you do not — and most visitors do not — the question becomes which tour, and that is where the usual advice falls apart, because every one of them is rated the same.
Twenty-one Natural Pool trips are sold on this island. Not one of them is a bus or a van. They are jeeps, horses and walks, which tells you more about the last two kilometres than any description will. Even the UTV tour hands you over to a jeep for the pool: UTVs and ATVs have been banned inside Arikok since 2020 (wheninaruba.com).
Do the reviews tell you which Natural Pool tour to book?
No. The ratings cannot decide this for you, and it is worth knowing before you start reading reviews. Here is every Natural Pool trip with enough reviews to mean anything, ordered by price, using the combined Viator and Tripadvisor figures.
| Tour | Rating | Reviews | Five-star | From | Length | Departs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunrise Hike & Swim | 4.9★ | 115 | 96% | $59 | 3.5h | 06:00 |
| Private Hiking & Natural Pool Swim | 5.0★ | 161 | 100% | $60 | 4h | 08:00 |
| Signature Jeep — pool & Baby Beach | 4.9★ | 1,630 | 95% | $78 | 4.5h | 08:00, 13:30 |
| Off-road Adventure Tour | 4.7★ | 1,264 | 84% | $89 | 4h | 09:00, 14:00 |
| Arikok National Park Jeep Safari | 4.9★ | 434 | 96% | $95 | 5h | 08:15 |
| Rugged Jeep Safari — pool & Indian cave | 5.0★ | 9,352 | 97% | $99 | 4.5h | 08:30, 14:00 |
| Off Road Safari to Natural Pool | 4.9★ | 3,750 | 94% | $108 | 4.5h | 08:30 |
| Outback Safari — lighthouse, Arikok, Conchi | 4.9★ | 288 | 95% | $122 | 4.5h | 08:30, 14:00 |
| Island Jeep Safari — pool, Baby Beach, lunch | 5.0★ | 10,014 | 98% | $139 | 8h | 08:30 |
| Horseback ride to the Natural Pool | 4.9★ | 1,252 | 93% | $155 | 3.5h | 09:00, 15:00 |
| UTV Adventure + jeep transfer | 5.0★ | 7,014 | 98% | $349 | 6h | 08:00, 13:30 |
Four of those eleven round to 5.0★, and nine of them sit between 93% and 98% five-star. The $59 walk and the $349 UTV are two percentage points apart. On the boat trips this same measurement does real work — the sunset sails run from 70% to 96% five-star and the number picks winners. Here it does not. Everyone who goes to the Natural Pool comes back happy, which means the reviews are telling you about the pool rather than about the operator.
So stop shopping on rating. The variables that actually differ are price, how long the day is, and whether you are driving.
The one exception is worth naming. Off-road Adventure Tour sits at 84% five-star from 1,264 reviews — the only trip here with a real complaint rate, in a category where nearly nobody complains, and $89 for four hours. It is the one we would step around.
What the extra $40 actually buys
Two of the biggest-selling Natural Pool 4×4 trips come from the same operator, and putting them side by side answers the most common upsell on the island.
| Rugged Jeep Safari | Island Jeep Safari | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $99 | $139 |
| Length | 4.5h | 8h |
| Reviews | 9,352 | 10,014 |
| Five-star | 97% | 98% |
| Also includes | Indian cave | Baby Beach, lunch |
One percentage point separates them across nearly twenty thousand reviews. The $40 does not buy a better pool — it buys three and a half more hours, a lunch and a stop at Baby Beach, which is free, an easy drive, and there whenever you want it.
Our own trip planner makes the same call: when it puts the Natural Pool in your plan, it picks the $99 tour, not its $139 sister.
Can you drive to the Natural Pool yourself?
Only in a real 4×4. The park itself is not the obstacle. Arikok charges $22 per adult to enter (under-17s free) and its main route is fine in an ordinary car — that is our own first-day advice, and it came from a cab driver rather than from a brochure. You can drive in, walk the marked trails, see the caves and the north coast, and leave.
It is the last stretch to Conchi that changes the vehicle requirement. The rule we give every traveller is blunt: for Conchi and the wild north coast a 4×4 is required, and taking a regular rental off-road voids your insurance. That is not a comfort recommendation. It is the line between a scraped bumper you pay for and one you do not. Aruba's tourism board is explicit too: standard passenger cars are not permitted beyond the checkpoints leading to Conchi (aruba.com).
"Not easy to get to. That's the whole point." — Marco
The market corroborates him without meaning to. Twenty-one operators sell this trip and every single one puts you in a jeep, on a horse or on your feet — the UTV tour switches to a jeep for the park. Nobody has found a way to run it in a van, and if there were one, at these prices somebody would.
So the honest decision tree is short. Rented a real 4×4? Drive, pay $22 a head at the gate, and spend the $77 each you saved on dinner. Rented a normal car and want the pool? Book. Want Arikok but not specifically the pool? Pay the $22 and walk the park's marked trails — or, if you want the pool on foot, go with a guide: the $59 sunrise hike is 96% five-star and gets you there before the jeeps.
Can you hike to the Natural Pool?
Yes: two guided hikes, and they are the cheapest way in. The two hiking options, at $59 and $60, are the least expensive trips to the pool and among the best reviewed: 96% and 100% five-star. They are also the hardest.
Both are rated high physical demand in our own facet data, both require you to swim, and their minimum ages are 8 and 10. The departures say the rest: the sunrise hike leaves at 06:00, two hours before the first jeep. If you are walking in, you go before the heat, and the operators have priced and scheduled around that fact rather than around your preference.
A walk to the Natural Pool is a genuinely good day. It is not a cheaper version of the jeep tour — it is a different, more demanding one.
Can you take kids to the Natural Pool?
Yes, but the younger the child, the shorter the list. This is where the data we hold does something no operator page will.
Minimum ages across these trips run from 3 to 10, and the only trip that takes a three-year-old is the Arikok National Park Jeep Safari at $95 — which is also one of only two rated moderate rather than high physical demand, at five hours with an 08:15 departure and 96% five-star from 434 reviews. If you are bringing a young child, that is the one, and it is not the one you would have found by sorting on popularity.
Two trips are marked safe for a baby, and both are private charters at $599 and $600, on 15 and 41 reviews respectively. Treat those as charters rather than as tours.
Six of the eleven require that everyone aboard can swim. The Signature Jeep, the Off-road Adventure Tour, the Outback Safari, the horseback ride and the UTV day do not — worth knowing if one person in your group is staying dry.
Our pick
The Rugged Jeep Safari at $99, on the 08:30 departure. 97% five-star from 9,352 reviews, four and a half hours, back in time for the afternoon. It is what our planner places and it is what we would book.
The honest alternative: the Signature Jeep at $78 is 95% five-star from 1,630 reviews and $21 cheaper for roughly the same day. On this evidence we cannot tell you it is worse. If price is the deciding factor, take it and do not feel short-changed.

Common questions
Can you drive to the Natural Pool in Aruba yourself? Only in a genuine 4×4. The track to Conchi is off-road, and a standard rental car's insurance is void the moment it leaves the pavement, and standard cars are not permitted past the park checkpoints leading to Conchi. Arikok park entry is $22 per adult (under-17s free), and the park's main route is fine in an ordinary car — it is the final stretch to the pool that is not.
How much does a Natural Pool tour cost in Aruba? Between $59 and $349. The $59 and $60 options are guided hikes; jeep tours run $78 to $139; the UTV-and-jeep day, where you drive the UTV part yourself, is $349. Private charters reach $600. The UTV day goes to the same pool, and the park leg is by jeep either way: UTVs are banned inside Arikok. At 98% five-star from 7,014 reviews the people who buy it clearly enjoy it, but what the extra $250 over the $99 jeep buys is the UTV driving, not a better destination.
Is the Natural Pool jeep tour worth it? Yes, if you do not have a 4×4. Every jeep tour to the pool scores between 84% and 98% five-star, so the trip reliably delivers — the decision is about price and length rather than quality.
Which Natural Pool tour is best? The Rugged Jeep Safari at $99: 97% five-star from 9,352 combined reviews, 4.5 hours, departing 08:30 or 14:00. The Signature Jeep at $78 is close enough that price can decide it.
What time do Natural Pool tours leave? Jeep tours leave between 08:00 and 09:00, with afternoon departures at 13:30 and 14:00. The sunrise hike leaves at 06:00 to beat the heat; the private hike at 08:00.
Can you take a toddler to the Natural Pool? Not on most trips. Minimum ages run from 3 to 10, and the only tour accepting a three-year-old is the Arikok National Park Jeep Safari at $95. Only two trips are marked baby-safe and both are private charters costing $599 and $600.
Is the Natural Pool ever closed? Sometimes, and without much warning. The Aruba Conservation Foundation closed it after Hurricane Beryl in July 2024 (arubatoday.com), and in 2021 after a capsized boat spilled fuel into the pool. If you are driving yourself, check with the foundation (+297 585-1234) before you go.
Do you need to be able to swim? For six of the eleven trips here, yes. The Signature Jeep, the Off-road Adventure Tour, the Outback Safari, the horseback ride and the UTV day do not require it.
